New Milestone for Donations
“The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals are a call for action by all countries – poor, rich and middle-income – to promote prosperity while protecting the planet. They recognize that ending poverty must go hand-in-hand with strategies that build economic growth and address a range of social needs including education, health, social protection, and job opportunities, while tackling climate change and environmental protection. ” – United Nations
The Cause
“Nearly 3 billion of the world’s 7.8 billion people live where temperature-controlled storage is insufficient for an immunization campaign to bring COVID-19 under control.” – The Associated Press, October 2020
Nexleaf Analytics, a technology nonprofit generating data across 26 countries, works to improve global health, and protect the environment, through a combination of innovative sensor technologies, real-time analytics, and by deploying data-driven solutions at a policy level.
The organization partners with developing communities across Africa and Asia, as part of the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation (GAVI), to safeguard the refrigeration and delivery of critical vaccines through its ColdTrace program. Nexleaf also monitors and advocates for better cookstove technology, alongside life-saving neonatal monitoring equipment in rural areas by generating real-world data on their performance.
By providing data that healthcare workers, regional managers, and government ministries need, Nexleaf enables them to make better-informed, faster decisions, and to ultimately save lives.
Our Partnership
“We’re proud to be in partnership with Nexleaf. Although it’s often behind the scenes, their work is vital to the wellbeing of millions of people, and gives us all hope for the future.”
– Burr Purnell, Director of Social Good, VidMob Gives
Against a backdrop of the global COVID-19 health crisis, and increased pressure on healthcare facilities around the world to refrigerate and safely administer vaccines, Nexleaf’s ColdTrace program has become more critical than ever. Its technology and social advocacy can make the difference between a community receiving crucial (and well-refrigerated) vaccines, or not.
Despite its vital work, the organization — which typically works in collaboration with a number of global partners, and institutions — faced an uphill struggle to diversify and secure long-term funding for the program given the many uncertainties of 2020.
After connecting to Nexleaf in early 2020 thanks to the Autodesk Foundation, VidMob Gives offered to help the nonprofit raise awareness for its good work, and to reach more individual donors to ensure the longevity of its ColdTrace program.
The Result
With the annual fundraising season fast approaching, Nexleaf realized how critical it was to communicate the complex scope, and impact of their work, to a new audience. Reaching individual donors, in particular, meant taking a new approach to storytelling.
The nonprofit decided to create a set of marketing assets in Agile Creative Studio to drive brand awareness, and increase engagement during their annual donor campaigns on GivingTuesday, through to the end of the year.
Using a set of photos, initial copy, and a few videos of their work as a starting point, Nexleaf and Vidmob collaborated to create a more vibrant and dynamic story, which resulted in:
- Two 15-second teaser videos to explain ColdTrace
- One 60-second brand awareness video
The new marketing assets were incorporated into campaigns on LinkedIn, YouTube, and Nexleaf’s fundraising newsletter.
The power of video to effectively convey Nexleaf’s story and increase audience engagement surprised the team, and helped the organization to meet its annual fundraising goal for the ColdTrace program:
- +500% increase in individual donors, particularly among younger generations
- +pageviews from desktop
- +views on LinkedIn
The surge in online donations will also give Nexleaf the flexibility to pursue more pilots in the year ahead, and help its partners deliver a consistent response to COVID-19.
Finally, the experience changed the way the organization plans to fundraise and deliver its message in future:
“We realized how powerful short videos can be in storytelling, and in fundraising. With this experience, we started thinking about adding more visual elements to our marketing and fundraising strategies.”
– Faizus Amin, Nexleaf Analytics
“Our challenge was to tell a complex story in a compelling and colorful way — in less than 60 seconds — to reach new individual donors and expand awareness for our work at this critical time. Working with VidMob was a great learning experience. The videos helped us to drive a remarkable increase in individual donors in 2020.”
